Yuri Batukov, russian baritone, completed his studies first as violinist and then as singer at the Tchaikovsky-Conservvatoire in Moscow. His first engagement was at the Opera of Sverdlovsk, where he sang Tomsky (The Queen of Spades), Shelkalov (Boris Godunov) and Escamillo (Carmen).

His further engagements included The King in Phlip Glass' "The White Raven" in Lissabon, Teatro Real of Madrid and the Loncoln Center Festival in New York, Onegin in Avignon, Franck in Korngold's "Die tote Stadt" in Strasbourg and at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris (available on DVD), Mandrika in R. Strauss' "Arabella" in Strasbourg, Coppenhagen, Graz and Innsbruck, The Forester in Janacek's "The Cunning Little Vixen" at the Theatre des Champs Elysees and The Cardinal in Tchaikovsky's "The Maid of Orleans" at the Fetival de Radio France in Montpellier.

Batukov performed Prometheus in Braunfels' "Die Vögel" at the Volksoper of Vienna, Alfio in "Cavalleria Rusticana" and Tonio in "I Pagliacci" with the Residence Orchestra of the Hague under Jaap van Zweden, Forster in "The Cunning Little Vixen" at the Opera Bastille in Paris, Drago in Schmann's "Genoveva" in Palermo under Gabriele Ferro, Nikitich in "Boris Godunov" in Bologna under Daniele Gatti and Tomsky at the Staatsoper Vienna under Seiji Ozawa. In July 2010 he sand Germont in Pretoria.

He also appeared in princpal roles such as Falstaff (Verdi), Jago, Amonasro, Nabucco, Scarpia, Le Grand Pretre (Samson et Dalila), DonBartolo (Barbiere), Don Pizarro (Fidelio), Swallow (Peter Grimes), Fligender Holländer, Tsar Dodon (The Golden Cockerel) and The Emperor in the German premiere of Tan Dun's "Tea" various german theatres and festivals, as well as at the Festival de La Palma.

This season he will perform Boris Timofeyevich in Shostakovich's "Lady Macbeth of MTsensk" in Braunschweig, Tomsky at the Komische Oper Berlin and Dulcamara in Erfurt.

Batukov's concert repertoire includes Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, and Mozart's Requiem.
