The Dutch mezzo Ruth Willemse started her vocal studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. In 2011 she won a place in the Vocal Master Progam with the Klaas Dijkstra Award for outstanding musicianship and graduated in June 2013 at the Vocal Master Program of the Prins Claus Conservatory.
During her conservatory time she sang her first opera roles. Recent engagements include the role of Berta in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the National Touring Opera (Dutch Touring Opera), Old Lady and Paquette, in a Dutch version of Candide as an "Artist in Residence" of the Dutch Touring Opera, Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi in France, Miss Todd in The Old Maid and the Thief and Concepcion in L'Heure Espagnole.
Her love for Lied repertoire and chamber music is expressed in performances of repertoire by composers Haydn, Schumann, Mahler, Tchaikovski, Wagner and Elgar amongst many others, in collaboration with the Belarusian pianist Vital Stahievitch, with whom she was selected for the Dutch Association for Lied.
Ruth worked with conductors Antonino Fogliani, Marc Piollet, Hans Leenders, Roberto Beltran Zavala, Wouter Padberg, Vincent de Kort, amongst others, and directors like Laurence Dale, Jos Groenier, Xander Straat, Elsina Jansen and Paul-Emile Fourny. She regularly participates as a soloist in concerts and recitals: Examples of her repertoire are the alto part in Bach's Matthäus Passion and Weihnachtsoratorium, the mezzo part in Durufle's Requiem, Verdi's Requiem, Mahler's Rückert Lieder, Elgar's Sea Pictures and Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder. Future engagements include the role of Old Lady in a retake of Candide with the Dutch Touring Opera at the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam and the role of Maddalena in Reimsreisje (Il Viaggio a Reims) at the Dutch National Opera (house debut), Amsterdam. She will sing Margret in Wozzeck at the Vara Matinee (Concertgebouw) and Flora in La Traviata with the Dutch Touring Opera.
