The swedish tenor Martin Nyvall studied singing in Copenhagen and Karlsruhe with Donad Litaker, Anthony Rolfe Johnson, Lars Waage and Joseph Protschka, among others. During the course of his studies he made his debut as Niklas in Lars Graugaards opera "Flugten" at the Fynske Opera in Odense, Dänemark.
From 2004 to 2009 Martin Nyvall was member of the solo ensemble of Luzerner Theater, Lucerne, Switzerland, where he sang the following roles: Fenton (Falstaff), Nemorino (L'elisir d'amore), Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), Gomatz (Zaide), Caramello (Eine Nacht in Venedig) and Symon (Der Bettelstudent), among others.
In a further operatic engagement he also performed Rigoletto at the Herbert von Karajan Whitsun Festival in the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden under the direction of Thomas Hengelbrock. As part of Lucerne Festival he performed Harlekin and Soldier in Viktor Ullmans "Der Kaiser von Atlantis", as well as Sellem in Igor Stravinsky's "The Rake's Progress".
In addition to the operatic stage, Martin Nyvall has dedicated an increasing amount of time to concert repertoire. Concert engagements have lead the artist across Europe to the Philharmonie at Gasteig, Munich, the Tohalle in Zürich, in the Handel Festival in Halle an der Saale and at the Baltic Sea Festival in Stockholm.
In recent years he has also developed his interest in song repertoire in close co-operation with pianist Andreas Frese. "Die schöne Müllerin","Dichterliebe", "Italienisches Liederbuch" and "Nordische Romanzen", as well as a programme with art songs by scandinavian composers, are only a part of the broad repertoire of the duo.
Martin Nyvall has won several scholarships in his homeland, Sweden, as well as a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Foundation in 2003.
In May 2005 he sang at the memorial concert in honour of Graf Lennart Bernadotte at the Lake Constanze Estate in Mainau, Germany.
Since the 2009/2010 season Martin Nyvall has been a member of the solo ensemble at the Staattheater Nuremberg where he has sung Walther von der Vogelweide (Tannhäuser), Graf Libenskof (Il viaggio a Reims), Malcolm (Macbeth), 1. Geharnischter (Die Zauberflöte), Pedrillo (Die Entführung aus dem Serial), and Brighella (Adrianne auf Naxos), among others.
Upcoming roles include: David (Meistersinger), Steuermann (Holländer), Vitek (Die Sache Makropulos) and Tonio (La Fille du Regiment).
