Jo Pohlheim was born in Stockholm and grew up in Munich. He studied vocal music at the Academy of Music in Frankfurt/Main by Prof. Martin Gründler as well as in Milan/Italy by Prof. Carla Castellani and by Milkana Nikolova in Vienna/Austria. His vocal development has led him from the Italian repertoire into the German heroic baritone trade.
Mr. Pohlheim was a member of the opera houses in Innsbruck, Kiel, Wiesbaden and Hanover. Since 2000 he has been working as a freelancer.
He was the winner of the first prize at the national vocal competition in Berlin and took part in different radio, TV and CD-productions. His numerous concert activities have taken him to important and well-known concert stages like the "Tonhalle" in Zürich, the "Musikhalle" in Hamburg, the "Teatro Maestranza" in Sevilla, the "Megaron" in Athens, the
"Sala Sao Paulo", the "Palau della Musica" in Valencia, the "Lisinski Hall"
in Zagreb, the "Gasteig" in Munich and the "Liederhalle" in Stuttgart.
Furthermore he has been invited to the festivals in Athens, Dubrovnik, Erfurt, Ljubljana, Ludwigsburg, Pula, Saloniki, Schwerin, Split and Wiesbaden.
In guest performances he has sung at the opera houses of Antwerpen, Bari, Basel, Brussels, Lisboa, Modena, Palermo, Piacenza, Tel Aviv, and at the State Operas in Stuttgart, Vienna and Munich as well as at the Royal Opera House in London.
In recent years he has given his debuts as: Iago, Scarpia, Macbeth, Conte Luna, Amonasro, Boris Timofejitsch, Don Pizarro, Barak, Jochhanaan, Orest, Wozzeck, Gunther, Kurwenal, Sixtus Beckmesser, Holländer, Telramund and Alberich in the Nibelungen Circle.
